Engaging the public throughout the development and implementation of AB 617 will be paramount. The District plans to host a series of workshops, public meetings, and community forums to educate the public, yet more importantly, to solicit suggestions and feedback on a wide variety of issues, including allocation of funds, identifying communities for potential enhanced monitoring and action plan development.

Hello Stockton CSC,
The Delta Stewardship Council is developing a Climate Adaptation Plan for the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta and would like your feedback! They plan to present at our next CSC meeting on the draft Climate Adaptation Plan, including the timeline for providing feedback, as well as their concurrent environmental justice work. Please see the below and attached information from the Delta Stewardship Council for your review and we look forward to the discussion at the February 7th CSC meeting.
Delta Adapts is the Delta Stewardship Council’s climate initiative consisting of a climate change vulnerability assessment (2021) and an Adaptation Plan (currently under development) for the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta, a region that includes Stockton. The Adaptation Plan will include information and strategies that can be used to help Delta communities plan for climate impacts with a focus on human safety and wellbeing, flood protection and water supply, climate-resilient agriculture, and habitat protection/restoration. A public draft of the Adaptation Plan will be released in winter 2024 for a 60-day public comment period.
We want to ensure that the final Adaptation Plan captures the needs and priorities of Delta communities, especially its most vulnerable communities. The attached flyer provides more information about Delta Adapts as well as key climate vulnerabilities and adaptation priorities for Stockton, identified through prior engagement with Stockton residents and community organizations. We look forward to hearing from this group so that your priorities can be reflected in the final Adaptation Plan.
Environmental and Tribal Justice Issue Paper: A concurrent initiative, the Council’s in-progress Environmental and Tribal Justice Issue Paper is identifying environmental and Tribal justice issues relevant to the Delta and providing recommendations for how the Council and other agencies can address those issues. We tentatively expect a public draft of this issue paper to be released for public comment around April 2024. While we are drawing from each initiative to inform the other, this issue paper covers environmental and Tribal justice issues and recommendations more broadly. Input from this group will inform both this issue paper and Delta Adapts.
