What to Expect at DPR’s November Public Notification Workshops

The California Department of Pesticide Regulation (DPR) will hold three public workshops on November 7, 9 and 10 to collect feedback on the notification pilot projects in Riverside, Santa Cruz, Stanislaus and Ventura counties and the statewide notification system. The UC Davis Center for Regional Change will facilitate all three workshops. The feedback received at the workshops and through written comments will inform the development of the statewide notification system and related state regulation.

The workshops are scheduled at the following times and locations. Workshops are open to the public, and registration is not required.

• In-person: Monday, November 7 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Oxnard Performing Arts Center in Ventura County: 800 Hobson Way, Oxnard, CA 93030
• In-person: Wednesday November 9 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Orosi Memorial Hall in Tulare County: 41645 Rd 128, Orosi, CA 93647

Language access: Spanish interpretation will be provided at all workshops. Mixteco interpretation will be provided at the Oxnard and Orosi workshops.

What to Expect at the In-Person Workshops:

The in-person workshops (Nov. 7 in Oxnard and Nov. 9 in Orosi) will have three stations for workshop attendees to explore at their own pace between 5-7 p.m. following opening remarks by DPR director, Julie Henderson. A brief presentation will also be provided at each station.

• A station with an overview of the four notification pilot projects
• A station describing the current design vision for the statewide notification system, including the anonymous search capability and map view
• A station for general questions on DPR’s work, how pesticides are regulated in California and the work of the department to advance sustainable pest management, including Integrated Pest Management

Attendees will be invited to submit their feedback to DPR by:

• Sharing verbal comments in their preferred language with DPR staff or UC Davis facilitators
• Posting written feedback in their preferred language on a comment wall or through a comment card

Feedback can be provided anonymously.

All feedback received, both written and verbal, will be shared directly with UC Davis Center for Regional Change to incorporate into an independent evaluation of the notification pilot projects and to inform the development of the statewide notification system.

What to Expect at the Virtual Workshop:

DPR’s virtual workshop (Nov. 10) will provide similar feedback opportunities as the in-person workshops beginning with a brief presentation.

The majority of the workshop will be for public feedback on the pilot projects and the statewide notification system to inform the development of the statewide notification system. Due to the expected attendance at the virtual workshop, all public comments will be limited to two minutes to allow as many people as possible to provide input.

The virtual workshop will close with DPR staff answering questions that arise during the feedback session.

Cómo se Llevarán a Cabo los Talleres de Notificación Públicos del DPR en Noviembre

El Departamento de Reglamentación de Pesticidas (DPR, por sus siglas en inglés) de California llevará a cabo tres talleres públicos los días 7, 9 y 10 de noviembre para recopilar comentarios sobre los proyectos piloto de notificación en los condados de Riverside, Santa Cruz, Stanislaus y Ventura así cómo el sistema de notificación estatal. El Centro Para el Cambio Regional de la Universidad de California Davis (UC Davis, por sus siglas en inglés) facilitará los tres talleres. Los comentarios recibidos en los talleres y a través de comentarios hechos por escrito informarán el desarrollo del sistema de notificación estatal y la regulación estatal relacionada.

Los talleres están programados en los siguientes horarios y lugares. Los talleres están abiertos al público y no es necesario registrarse.

Acceso al Idioma: Habrá interpretación al español en todos los talleres. Habrá interpretación al mixteco en los talleres en Oxnard y Orosi.

Cómo se Llevarán a Cabo los Talleres en Persona:

Los talleres en persona (los días 7 de noviembre en Oxnard y el 9 de noviembre en Orosi) tendrán tres estaciones/grupos para que los asistentes al taller exploren a su propio ritmo entre las 5 y las 7 de la tarde, después de la bienvenida y comentarios de apertura por parte de la Directora del DPR, Julie Henderson. También se proporcionará una breve presentación en cada estación.

• Una estación con información (descripción general) de los cuatro proyectos piloto de notificación
• Otra estación que describe la visión del diseño actual para el sistema de notificación en todo el Estado, incluyendo la capacidad de búsqueda anónima y de ver el mapa
• Tercera estación para preguntas generales sobre el trabajo del DPR, cómo se hacen cumplir las leyes sobre los pesticidas en California y el trabajo del Departamento para avanzar en el manejo sotenible de plagas, incluido el Manejo Integral de Plagas

Se invitará a los asistentes a enviar sus comentarios al DPR de la siguiente manera:

• Compartir comentarios verbales en su idioma preferido con el personal del DPR o los facilitadores de UC Davis
• Poner comentarios por escrito en su idioma preferido en una pared de comentarios o a través de una tarjeta de comentarios

Los comentarios se pueden hacer en forma anónima.

Todos los comentarios recibidos, tanto por escrito como verbales, se compartirán directamente con el Centro para el Cambio Regional de la UC Davis para incorporarlos en la evaluación independiente de los proyectos piloto de notificación y para informar el desarrollo del sistema de notificación en todo el Estado.

Cómo se Llevará a Cabo el Taller Virtual:

El taller virtual del DPR (10 de noviembre) brindará oportunidades de hacer comentarios, de forma similar a los de los dos talleres en persona. El taller virtual comenzará con una breve presentación, similar a las presentaciones realizadas en los talleres en persona.

La mayor parte del taller será para comentarios del público sobre los proyectos piloto y el sistema de notificación estatal para informar el desarrollo del sistema de notificación estatal. Debido a la espera de un gran numero de asistentes en el taller virtual, todos los comentarios públicos se limitarán a dos minutos para permitir que la mayoria posible de personas brinden sus comentarios.

El taller virtual se terminará con el personal del DPR respondiendo las preguntas que surjan durante la sesión de comentarios.
