Hello Stockton CSC,
As we’ve previously mentioned may occur, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) will have to vacate the current air monitoring trailer at the San Joaquin County Public Health Services property (1601 E. Hazelton Ave, Stockton, CA 95205) by mid-August. We have been informed that we would not be able to set up our new station until sometime in January. CARB requested the installation of a temporary power pole at the Hazelton site to remain operational, but upon evaluation, the County denied the request as it would interfere with ongoing construction. This would consequently cause a significant data gap of several months. Due to these circumstances, we disappointingly cannot remain at Hazelton.
We have recently begun conversations with University Park staff to avoid significant data loss by relocating the station there (corner of Park St and N. Aurora St, Stockton, CA, 95202). Some data can begin to be collected sometime in August or early September. The station may remain permanently at University Park, however, we are continuing to evaluate options that would allow us to move back to Hazelton.
If there is significant interest from the community, CARB can host a Question & Answer meeting to address questions pertaining to these developments. Additionally, upon community request, CARB staff can offer a brief update to the community that examines how data from University Park compares to historical Hazelton data.
This is the latest information regarding the site relocation which is continually evolving. We will continue to inform this group when any new pertinent information becomes available. We share disappointment with the Stockton community from this outcome, but thank you for your time, recommendations, and support throughout our pursuit of CARB’s new air monitoring station location.
